My question has always been, "why am I here?" It's my opinion that all of us have a purpose in life or purpose for being here. I have yet to know mine fully. Thus this question has remained unanswered for me. Hope this one helps Zeb.. Hugs to ya man, Ron

Wow, Zeb - a loaded question for sure. Here's one of mine: why are completely innocent children allowed to suffer - like those born to abusive parents or to parents in areas of the world where disease is rampant and the basics of food and water are scarce - or those who are born only to find their bodies put through the challenge of fighting cancer or some other genetic disorder that renders them helpless - well, you get the picture - these are some of the things for which there seems to be no good answer. So please tell me - WHY? Hope all is well at school, Zeb - have fun. Mark

I find it interesting that your debate class challenge never specified to whom or what we could ask our question. Yet, most of the postings before mine seemed to be seeking an answer that only a supreme being could provide. So, I guess my question...also to my supreme being...would be: "God, will you please lead me to the person or persons that I have harmed the most, allow me the time and assist me in making things right with him, her or them?" And, if for some reason I was given a second question, it would be: "This isn't gonna hurt...is it?" Red/Randy

My question would be - What impact did I make on the lives of others, my family, friends, and co-workers? Perhaps the real answer would be after I was gone because human nature is shy to the possiblity of having to face the object of comments - me. lol

My question Zeb would have to be. Why do bad things happen to good people? As always I love the topic starting question that you post on here. I'm sure this one is going to generate alot of responses...

This has really generated some thought, Zeb. And I think it admirable that most questions are serious. There's a few that are here for comic relief, but most all are asking questions of religious overtones. I don't know why I'm surprised, but it does my heart good to know that others have similar questions to mine. I just don't stop to think that someone else may be having thoughts and questions just like me. As for prayers being unanswered and bad things happening to people... I do know that in the case of prayers we, being human, sometimes over look or miss the answers right in front of us. OR, we must DO something to achieve what we're praying for. I think allot of times, we (including me) EXPECT our answered prayers to be delivered in a gift box or something. And I've learned, it doesn't work that way. As for bad things happening, God does have a plan and a reason for all of it. Loosing my partner after 26 years and having to be there for him through cancer, made me stronger than I could have ever imagined. I have no choice now. If it's to be done, I do it. I'm way off topic, here.. but the comments I've read lead me to post this message. I'm very thankful that you presented the topic. Let's see what additional thoughts you'll get. Best and hugs to you! Ron

I would ask why both my mother and father both had to die so horribly with bladder and mouth cancer
| ||
9/2/2009 4:41 pm |
Well, I've thought this over, and it seems like everyone wants to know why they're here; what their purpose was, etc. If I were about to die, the burning question I would have is, "Am I going to Heaven? Or should I pack my Coppertone and teflon sandals...." I don't think that gay men and women need to be redeemed. I belive that we were created for a specific purpose, which in my opinion, is balance. I've been preaching this for years: All gay men and women are, is Mother Nature's way of birth control. We do not add to the continuation of the species, but we enhance humanity in many other ways, such as the arts and sciences, architecture and engineering, etc. Some of the best designers in the aforementioned professions are gay, or at bare minimum, bisexual. If we look at the world, everything here follows logic: everything has a birth, a life and a death, and is recycled. No one animal or plant is in excess, except humanity. Everything is balanced and in harmony, except the human race. There are too many people on this planet, thus we have famine and diseases running rampant, as well as deformities, and other ailments. Our numbers need to be reduced, and our minds need to be enlightened before we can reach a Utopia that we are all "striving" for. In summation, my question to God, as I'm assuming that it is He who can answer this question, would be as I stated above. T~

I don't know who could answer the question, but it would be one many would ask; is there a god? If there wasn't it would explain a lot, if there was I would sure have a lot more questions that I may have answered some day. John

Zeb: What a question!! With my medical history, I do wonder why I have been allowed to stay on. Is it because there is something I still need to do? Or something have done or continue to do? For whatever the reason there must be One who wants me to stay on. At any rate it would be a very tough question for anyone to answer.Good luck in finding your answer. D

Well, knowing that my time here would be over very soon, I would ask nothing. I would be content knowing that I had learned what it is I was here to learn, and look forward to moving on to the next phase of my existence. I will not die. My body will, but it is just a vessel. Whether you want to call it a soul, a consciousness, spirit, energy, etc. I will once again be one with everything. I am and always will be.

There are so many great answers here, but, I asked my mother not long ago, whom is very religous, the question why I was put on this earth and what was my purpose in life was. Actually the best answer I read which could be a great possibility would be what "one power bottom" wrote, which for some reason makes a lot of sense. Although there were alot of great responses so far, I am sure there will be many more!!

zeb. I will give it allot more thought! i know that, as long as you have did the best you could, trying not to hurt people, and treat every one, as you would want to be, we all love, we have pain, to get over.butt to just keep on going, i think if you can really say, you did your best!take the good, with the bad, and make the best of it, and you know in your heart. you did the best you could! the most important thing, is you did? you know you have! that you can rest your head at night, with no regrets. I sleep very well at night just knowing that,and that there was, & still is allot of love in my life, and that i can give it, & take it in return, i,m a very happy man.very good thought, wish you well! your friend TONY

Have to admit to you, Zeb, what I've not said to you before. I'm an agnostic, and guess my question would have to be, "Is there truly anything beyond this life?" If I were dying anyway, I guess the answer wouldn't matter a great deal, but would be a point of curiousity. Tho that anyone could actually answer such a question to my satisfaction would be an impossibility, and undoubtedly reliant upon faith rather than knowledge. Larry

One question aye? Guess it would have to be something like this.... Was it really necessary to cause so much pain to so many by so few or was it on purpose? I don't need a long debate on the rights and wrongs of it. I just want to be able to make up me mind whether or not god is a really twisted sot or if it was all just some sort of accident.

I have thought about this a lot of times in my life, and after all the times I thought about what question I would ask I could never come up with the same question twice. I am full of inquiries, but fact is I am also full of speculations, ideas, that provide me with my own answers-questionable as some of them may be. But if I was offered the opportunity I would probably ask why is everything-plant, animal, human, and anything else that is self aware even on the most minute degree-so special? Why are we all, in the words of one poet, "an individual snowflake-precious and unique in its own way?"

Zeb, the question that I would ask is "What is the question that needs to be answered?" We can all become quite existential and have a variety of questions about our place in the world, how we fit in, what is the meaning, etc, but those are questions that have plagued humanity for millenia. So ultimately I would like to know what is the ultimate question and what is it's answer. Mr Bill
