So .... Are You Ready???

I don't know about you, but I am so ready for the end of the reminders about the transition to HDTV!!!!! I'm ready. I am not a cable subscriber, so that meant either buying a new tv/tvs and the kind of antenna that it takes or a converter box/es or subscribing to cable. I chose to replace a tv and buy a converter box for another. Because they changed the date for the transition, I did not hurry to get it done ... but I've been ready for over two weeks now ... lol

According to the news, they are saying that approximately 75,000 homes in the Phoenix area are not ready .... with only hours left now before the change takes place.

The only problem that I am having is that the homeowners association in which I live does not allow exterior antennas, and the current one is built into the exterior wall ... and it will not work with HDTV ... so I had to buy an antenna for inside. I have bought two, and the second one is working better, but I still have to adjust it often to change channels ... and sometimes out of the blue I will get the message that there is no signal and I have done nothing to the antenna ... lol. So, my quest is to find the most powerful version of an inside antenna to work with HD transmission. I don't know anyone who is pleased with the antennas for interior and the reception although I will say that the number of channels I now get has more than doubled.

Are you ready for the transition???

Wow, I never knew that very many people had regular broadcast TVs anymore. Most Canadians have been either on cable or satellite for many decades, I suppose it's due to the lack of regular broadcast choices.
I did hold back for HD until a little over a year ago though.

Hey there John! I'm one of those people who just will not pay to watch tv ... lol! With the new transmission, I now get 16 channels and that is more than I care to goof around watching. lol All I basically want is the same channels I am used to with clear reception and not have to goof around shifting an antenna ... lol. Thanks and take care!!

I got one indoor antenna and it works better than the system in the bldg, It is small, cost $15 ay Walmart. RCA Digital Flat Antenna. Looks sorta like a bow-tie hanging on the wall. Good luck,
Hey there and thanks for the suggestion. The one I am using now cost about 3 times that ... and I have to adjust it to get channels, so ... lol ... the thing is sitting on the coffee table and not looking all that decorative ... lol. I want something that picks up everything I am used to getting and not have to goof around with the thing! lol Thanks again and take care!

We PAY for TV,,,,,I remember the old man say(back in the late 60's ) "I'll never pay for TV!! ..Well,most do now. Also remember asking my mom when i was very young,"Mom,why are they selling water in a bottle?" (grocery store)..Time they do change.
Hey there and thanks for sharing that memory. I was in high school when I read in TV Guide about this upcoming thing called cable tv and wondering, "Why would anyone pay?" lol Thanks again and take care!

    Hey Whitney;

Really? Y'all are just coming into the digital TV age? As backwards as my neighborhood is with newer technology, I've had a satellite dish on my house for more than a decade.

    Oh, and what's a commercial?

    Welcome to the 21st century!

Yeah here in Florida we switched last February !!! Worse part is, all the TV's that we use for emergency ( battery operated), due to Hurricanes, aren't any good anymore, and the new ones are expensive !!!

It works great with my house antena. My trailor on the river never had cable or satelite, justa outside antena. The coverter box, with outside antena makes viewing local channels better than ever. The only problem I see is when storms come by I loose my picture. That is the one thing I loved about analog. In bad weather it was alway there, and being 30 miles from a tornado siren, analog was dependable.Peace
Hey there! I'm glad that is working well for you! I hate it that my tiny tv will no longer work at all ... ! Thanks for sharing and take care!

I have a relative in the same situation. I told her to pay to have her house relocated next to a cable tower. It be her house, a giant 200 ft tower and she'd plant a few sunflowers to take away from the 200 foot tower. She didn't find the humor, she wanted to find Oprah. I'm serious, that's exactly what she said to me. LOL
Hey there! Thanks for relating the humor! But isn't Oprah the cure for everything wrong? lol Take care!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey there! So far tonight the reception has been great on most channels ... lol .... I'm eager to see if that holds true tomorrow ... that would make it functioning well for two whole days in a row! lol Thanks for sharing and take care!
