Where are the Posts? Where are the Voices?

I find it fascinating how in a week where major events are taking place for all the world to see, not a word has been written here in the OP blogs, as far as I know, on the tragedy unfolding in Iran. While the debate rages here on questions such as nationalized health care etc, and they are legitimate issues, it seems my friends on the left can't find a single line to waste on that particular calamity. ![]() Yes, they can put a spotlight on all the so-called shortcomings of the U.S.A., all the human rights we supposedly violated, all the countries we invaded. We can discuss how we terrorize the terrorists in Guantanamo or at renditioned sites. they can talk freely about so-called cooperate greed in America and which CEO flies which jet to where. But they can't find the time to post a thing about real oppressive regimes like they have in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Most of my friends on the left are honest brokers. Although I disagree with guys like Newfinder and bondageboy and Maine on most issues, I see that they genuinely mean well however misguided their positions may be. They want what the feel is good for America. A few on the left, on the far left, some of whom have peddled their vitriol on this site ever since I've been a member obviously do not wish my country well at all. They may pontificate freely on why they believe the U.S.A. to be the bain of humanity, but what they're really saying is the only good American is a socialist American. Where is the outrage over Tehran? Maybe they are letting the grand anointed one, our president take the lead? After all, he did come out with condemning word over the events in Iran a week after it had started. Last week he said he wanted to avoid the appearance of "American meddling" in the current situation. Maybe tomorrow Obama will write a sternly worded letter to the Ayatollah? I'm sure to see how many on the left can show how incensed they are over the Iranian sham election and the brutal put down by that oppressive regime without blaming the U.S. for "meddling" back when the C.I.A. deposed a Soviet stooge for a Shah? well kev, your favorite liberal has arrived!! first off, my positions are not misguided. I simply go by the facts that are presented to us. As for my position on this Iranian crisis, we should speak out against any violence that is happening against people that are peacefully protesting. But ultimately, we cannot control Iran's future. Only the Iranians can control their destiny. But seeing how they are truly ruled by The "Supreme Leader" who makes all the decisions in Iran, choosing an Iranian president really does not change anything with the country's policies Do, or do not. One more thing--We can't force democracy or anything else on another nation. If a nation's people are truly happy living under Islamic law, then so be it. We have to accept that, not go against it. Do, or do not. There is no try.--Yoda from Star Wars Come chat with me & my friends in T.W.I.N.K.S.

If ronald reagan had been more than just a actor with alzheimers playing the part of president. He could have slam dunked all of Iran.Back in that day america was still a powerhouse and another war could have easily been justifyed after the hostage ordeal..When will everyone just realize those people over there are not like us.They deal with their problems the same way we did 200 years ago.The people we are today may be who they will be in the future.Only thing that worries me is Iran could easily be nuclear ready to harm the UK,Israel or the 100's of thousands of americans we have in that region..Peace

I'm guessing those who debate the left way of thinking here are trying to sway the right to their way of thinking. This obviously works both ways, if you can convince someone to vote your way then there is a possible positive outcome for yourself. There is little point stating the obvious on how awful the situation is in Iran as we have little chance of changing anything there. Probably the more the west vocally supports change in their politics the more they will use that against change. Seeing as they have most of the population convinced we are a world evil. Also, it seems in general we are most concerned about ourselves before we concern ourselves with the affairs of anyone else. Kind of a sad state of affairs, but true. Anyway, I am happy to say I can state an opinion here without worrying about the government coming after me. John

Throughout our history, we have stepped in an "helped" whichever side we thought more "correct". Why have we gotten involved all over the world at different times. Did we do so as a matter of "right" or as a matter of "might". BondageBoy is 100% correct as he wrote, "But ultimately, we cannot control Iran's future. Only the Iranians can control their destiny." The question is, should we try to help those who think as we do? If we do, all will resent our interference. Use a simple analogy, Kevin: You see a parent punishing a child for, for example, refusing to tell a lie. Anything you do will make the matter worse -- for the child and everyone concerned. The child, in the short term, cannot win (if every punishment they can come up with fails to force him to lie, he still cannot win). In the long term, the child will grow up and learn to defend himself/herself or die beforehand. Kevin, I am outraged every time I encounter a religion trying to run an individual, much less a country. I can do nothing. Nor can I stop the religious fanatics of any sect from teaching their children to put the religion above all other considerations. If I tried, our fellow americans would pillory me. They want to continue to force their children to see the world as they see it. Take care. Gary The ability to spell well is not NECESSARILY the mark of a small mind. Sam Clemens (Mark Twain)

You forgot to mention how Obama has made our following of a nuclear vessel public. Had this been Bush the vessel would have "accidentally" been hit by a metal ice burg. I don't know what people see in this president. I don't know what change they expected. We put in a novice and the world is testing him not little by little but greatly. So far he's been in office for a little over a couple months and every enemy we have is flicking us the finger. Why? Because they know hes got no balls to do anything. Until the President walks the walk and stops campaigning things are just going to get worse.

In my opinion Obama spends way too much time making speeches on TV and radio. More action and less talk. Not less action and more talk. Now what has happened in Iran shows how far they have yet to come. Things like this can be debated all day long...But what good will that do.Positive action needs to be taken. Take care. Phil

The more we tried to stay out of this trouble the more Iran blamed us (USA,UK) for all their problems,I would have told them f@@k off that is there sham govenment and accused them of anything I could have thought of,attack being the best defence.
