Thru My Eyes

How I see life

Today as I vegged out watching tv, I happened upon a movie entitled "Ice Princess".

In a quick summation, it was about a young lady who was a math genius and went to Harvard for an interview. Yet a classmate was an ice skater on the semi-pro circuit. Their lives inter mingled and the math genius took a gander at ice skating. Both came to terms with their own dreams and confronted their parents.

I believe as we are children, our parents have dreams for us. They want us to become doctors, teachers, etc. But as we grow our dreams take hold and they don't always match those of our parents. Yet they have a difficult time letting go of their dreams for us. It hurts as they watch us grow into the people we are today, and without them there for support would we have made it?

I know I didn't full fill the dreams my parents had for me, but they let follow my own without ever saying "We told you so".

I'm A Dog Jan 5, 2009 4:15 pm

Yes that's right I said it, I'm a Dog according to the Chinese Zodiac. Here are my traits according the zodiac:

Loyal, faith full, and true, people born in the Year of the Dog make the best of friends.

As such, they often inspire confidence in others and are always willing to help those in need.

The Dog is not showy, and sometimes can be shy at social gatherings. Their role is more apt to be good listeners, and they usually make good companions for the more demonstrative or gregarious personalities of the zodiac.

A born worrier, the Dog people can sometimes bark and bite at those around them or become highly critical of others who do not share their highly developed sense of honor and duty. Conversely, Dogs may become quite, cool, and judgmental with loved one who arouse their anger, but they will always remain devoted.

Although young Dogs are apt to find fault at every passing injustice, the more mature will usually grow less anxious and take matters far less seriously as they age. Their basic ideal of guarding against the wrongs of society as whole stays with them, however. It is certainly always the Dog who can be relied upon to speak up for disenfranchised and downtrodden.

Dogs do not consciously seek out riches, but neither do they ever want for creature comforts. With their considerable talents and innate qualities, Dogs usually excel as effective social activists, teachers, nurses, or doctors.

Some famous people born in the Year of the Dog:

Winston Churchill, George Gershwin, and Jane Goodall.

What is your Chinese Zodiac and do you think it fits you?

Better Days Dec 31, 2008 3:46 pm

This year's mantra for me was the song "Crazy Bitch" by Buck Cherry. I guess it described me pretty good.

As I have stated earlier, I picked out my mantra for next year. Here are the lyrics to that song:

And you asked me what I wanted this year
And I try to make this kind, and clear
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
'Cause I don't need boxes wrapped in strings
And designer love and empty things
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
So take these words
And sing out loud
'Cause everyone is forgiven now
'Cause tonight's the night the world begins again
I need someplace simple that we could live
And something only you can give
And that's faith and trust and peace while we're alive
And the poor child who saved this world
And there's 10 million more who probably could
If we all just stopped and said a prayer for them
So take these words
And sing out loud
'Cause everyone is forgiven now
'Cause tonight's the night the world begins again
I wish everyone was loved to night
And somehow stop this endless fight
Just a chance that maybe we'll find better days
So take these words
And sing out loud
'Cause everyone is forgiven now
'Cause tonight's the night the world begins again
'Cause tonight's the night the world begins again

Peace for the New Year

The Perfect Gift Dec 28, 2008 4:39 am

I had started to track down my brother that lives in Alabama. I got discouraged because luck was zilch. But I think someone intervened and Christmas day night he called. I told J that I wanted to come down and visit him and my niece the angelic Miss Em.

So on Friday morning I was up before 6 am, I couldn't sleep. I grabbed my camera, the map, and directions to his place. Kev and I were on the road by 745, stopped by Wal-Mart and bought her a few gifts. I found an animated Christmas Tree that dances to the song "Rocking Around The Christmas Tree". It was sooooo cute I just had to buy it for Miss Em. I also bought her a couple of t-shirts.

The most important part of the day, was that of spending time with them. Miss Em has daddy wrapped around her little finger. J told me that one day Miss Em wanted to pack his lunch as he got ready for work. Miss Em placed half the items of the fridge in his bag! J was like that was sweet but I don't eat a bottle of ketchup

Miss Em is definitely one of the clan, she has the infamous family temper and is very self dependent. She is a doll, sweet as sugar. But boy can she go from a to a in two seconds flat. J has his hands full with her. I guess the family curse mom and dad told us about came true for him. They use to say "When you have children, they are going to be twice as rotten as you ever thought about being."

Life Is What We Make It Dec 25, 2008 6:37 am

Alas as I woke this Christmas morning, no cowboy was found under my tree. I think Whitney intercepted my letter to Santa
LOL!

My friends, I may not be near family nor have friends to have dinner with today. But because I am thought of and loved, I am not alone. A few gifts are better than none, but the greatest gift is the gift of love.

It saddens my heart when I read or hear that families can't get along enough to spend today together. I wish I had a magic wand to erase the years of hurt. Yes as I have said it many times before, my family is very important to me.

As I look to the new year, I approach it with apprehension. Work is really slow and we are going to 4 days a week. But I refuse to let it get me down. I will take each day as it comes.

Just remember life is what we make it. We have two choices, to go on head strong or to give up. I refuse to give up!

My friends, I thank you all for your support. I am honored to have you apart of my life.

How Will You Be Remembered? Dec 21, 2008 5:23 am

Have you ever thought when your time on this earth is over, how will you be remembered?

My dad was just a man, he didn't have any super powers. Yet he touched so many lives. My dad was a Certified Nurse Midwife. He saw women during their pregnancy and often my parents at would be at Wal-Mart and ladies would come up to me and ask my dad; "Hi, do you remember delivering this one and this one?". The ages of the children would be between 2 months and 4 yrs.

As many lives he helped bring into this world, sadly there was many babies that died after birth or were still born. My dad would comfort the grieving parents and cry with them. He told them we don't always understand these things, but God is here with you.

My dad also counseled young couple who at the time were not wed. He told the young father's that they needed to step up to the plate and support his family.

At my father's memorial service many of his co-workers and friends from his church spoke of the man he was. But there was an equal number of patients spoke of my dad's character. One said this "When I first saw Mr. Bill, he looked like a monster. But I found out that he was a big ole teddy bear.".

My dad was just a man, he didn't have any super powers. I know I will never be able to fill his shoes.

How will you be remembered?

Dad, Merry Christmas.

Secret Millionaire? Dec 19, 2008 8:15 pm

I don't know if any of you have seen the show Secret Millionaire? Basically what it's about is millionaires leave their laps of luxury and venture into poverty stricken areas. They donate at least $100,000 of their own money.

I have caught a few seconds of the show, and when at the end when they say surprise, we are millionaires and we want to give you this check for x amount of dollars, my heart says awwww. It's nice to know there is still a light kindness shining brightly in a stark world.

So if you were awarded $25 million, but had to donate the money to charitable resources, which ones would you choose?

I would donate part of the money to children's hospitals, animal rescue shelters, and medical research.
